Hot Potato

Imad Lahham

LEVEL – 27   ANTE – 10k   BLINDS – 25k/50k    REMAINING – 4/207

See Imad Lahham’s chips.

  • See them come,
  • See them go,
  • See them come back again.

Lahham just regained the chiplead by taking 600,000 from Michael Pearson is a most unusual way.

2-7-T-T is the flop and turn, 375,000 from Lahham and a call from Pearson.

River is a Jack, neither player can find a bet.

Pearson shows 6-2 for bottom pair, Lahham shows A-7 for 3rd pair and he’s good.

Laying Down Jacks

Bill Watchman

K-Q-2-9-2, three hearts … 450,000 already in the pot, a bet of 275,000 from Imad Lahham, with Bill Watchman moving all in for 530,000 total.

Lahham has 600,000 behind and seems puzzled by the move.

“I can beat Ace_Nine, I cannot beat a flush,” he says, adding he can’t beat a King or Queen either.

OK, that sure sounds as though Lahham has Pocket_Jacks … and he finds a fold, showing …

Yep, Jacks …

Watchman does not show but adds, “You were behind.”

They’ve Been Here Before

Bill Watchman

LEVEL – 26   ANTE – 5k   BLINDS – 20k/40k    REMAINING – 4/207

Four players left in a RenoTahoe Main Event, and both Michael Pearson and Bill Watchman are still in the tourney.

Sound familiar?

Pearson won the 2016 WSOP Circuit Lake Tahoe Main Event for a $153,191 cash. Watchman was 4th for a $51,293 payday.

Well, here they are again, 4-handed in the Ante Up Poker Tour Reno Main Event … and we almost had the same outcome.

Watchman moves all-in on the 3-4-5-K turn, with Pearson snap-calling.

  • Watchman shows King_Queen for top pair.
  • Pearson shows 4-5 for the two middle pair.

River … 3 and Watchman reaches for his keys, preparing to head for the payout window, when the other players at the table point out the river paired the three, giving Watchman a better two pair.

“Well, that was embarrassing,” joked Watchman as he settled back down in his seat. “Go ahead and print that, I believe in a free press.”

Watchman moves to 1.1 million, Pearson to 1.5 million.

Randy Gil – 5th Place – $9,678

Randy Gil

LEVEL – 26   ANTE – 5k   BLINDS – 20k/40k    REMAINING – 4/207

All in with Ace_Queen, Randy Gil racing against the Pocket_Tens of Michael Pearson, looking to pair up to remain in the Ante Up Poker Tour Reno Main Event.

Walking down the hotel’s hallways this morning on his way to the Day 2 Final, Gil said he just needs one hand to go his way late in the tournament for him to earn a victory.

The board goes Will Kassouf, however, and Gil is eliminated in 5th place, cashing for $9,678.

Pearson moves to 1.95 of the 5.175 million chips in play.

Jared Shipley – 7th Place – $6,827

Jared Shipley

LEVEL – 25   ANTE – 5k   BLINDS – 15k/30k    REMAINING – 6/207

All-in and a call here late in Level 25, it is Jared Shipley at risk against Josh Morrow, the two having very close to even 750k stacks.

  • Shipley – Pocket_Eights
  • Morrow _As-Kc

The flop is Queen_High, all-spades, a fourth spade on the turn giving Morrow the nuts. The dealer counts down the stacks and verifies Morrow does barely have Shipley covered.

Shipley is eliminated in seventh place, a cash of $6,827.

Morrow moves to 1.5 million

The board comes out 8-9-A and Shipley moves all in, Pearson rapidly mucking.

Shipley shows Pocket-Jacks, while Watchman turns over Ace_Queen and Watchman holds to move to 675,000.

Jared Shipley and Jaime Navarro Rosales get all their chips in the middle – with almost even stacks – on the 8-4-J-T board

Jaime shows Jack_Eight for two pair and he’s ahead of the Queen_Nine from Shipley who has an over and an open-ended straight.

King on the river for the straight and Jaime is eliminated in 8th place, cashing for $5,883.

Shipley moves to 470,000

Biggest Pot of Tournament

Jaime Navarro Rosales

LEVEL – 19   ANTE – 1k   BLINDS – 4k/8k    REMAINING – 16/207

Imad Lahham and Jaime Rosales – the two chipleaders – clash over at Table 2, just as they did late in Day 1B, albeit a different outcome.

Lahham pushed Rosales off of a 400k pot near the end of play last night.

Today, well, you see, what happened was …

Lahham 3-betting the flop to 135,000, with Rosales moving all in for an additional 487,000. A call from Lahham makes this a 1.275 million pot on the flop of

Kc Kc Kc

There’s a pause of a minute or two, Lahham getting an accurate chipcount, and then he announces a call.

Kc Kc

For Lahham for two pair, King kicker

Kc Kc

For Rosales for trips with a backdoor flush draw as well

Kc Kc

goes the turn and river, and Rosales is now the dominant stack with 16 players remaining.

I know, I just mentioned Imad Lahham in the last post, but since that time …

down to just 4 eliminations away from the end of the night and Lahham – the defending Ante Up World Champion – just caught a 50BB punt to move to 625,000 and a substantial lead over the rest of the Day 1B field.

Lahham opened, only to have his challenge move in with Pocket_Eights for 50BB. Lahham turned over Ace_King of clubs and turned Broadway.

He just took 220,000 more from Jaime Rosales by moving in on the river on a double-paired board while holding an overpair and he’s now close to 900,000

Aiming to Join Doyle

Loren Klein

LEVEL – 8       ANTE – 75     BLINDS – 300/600         ENTRIES – 118

He’s playing for poker history next summer, but Loren Klein has a field of Reno players to deal with right now.

Klein just lost a race AK < JJ to Shawn Daniels to be eliminated from Table 7 in the $200,000 Guarantee Ante Up Poker Tour Reno $1100 Main Event.

Back to the registration desk he goes, back to the same seat at Table 7 he returns, followed by a re-entry from Valerie Hanley to join Josh Prager and Gerry Morrell also at Table 7.

So, this poker history thing?

Klein has won a WSOP bracelet each of the last three years – 2016 $1500 Mix; 2017 $1500 PLO; 2018 $10,000 PLO (for a milly-cash).

A bracelet in 2019 makes Klein the first person since 1979 to win a bracelet in four consecutive years.

Who was that person? Somebody named Doyle Brunson.

Klein’s resume also includes back-to-back main event wins in the first two years of Jason Somerville’s RunItUp Reno classic among his 42.7 million in career tournament earnings.

Will four bracelets in four years be a bigger deal than night, when Klein won the $160 buy-in 8-Game Mix here, playing Drawmaha and Tahoe Pitch-n-Roll for a $1,956 cash (otherwise known as two-tenths of one percent of what he earned for winning the $10k PLO bracelet)
